Ahh, Transitions… How to Reset Your Routines for Fall Success

As the fall season begins, it’s a perfect time to refresh your routines and embrace new habits. Let’s be honest: Since most of us are overachievers, we’ve always loved this time of new school supplies, fresh notebooks, and the shift in seasons. It offers a chance to reset, refocus, and realign the daily rhythms. However, the busier and more responsibilities we take on, the harder this gets. The key to success? Intentionality.

If you’re looking for a kickstart as you head into fall, spend 10 minutes reflecting on the questions below and incorporate the best practices for managing transitions. Feel free to give yourself a gold star for a bit of a reward. ⭐⭐

Reflection Questions:

  1. What's your vision for your new routine? Picture the type of day-to-day flow that feels sustainable and fulfilling for you. Get as specific and descriptive as possible.

  2. What do you want to leave behind? To build a new routine, you have to let some things go. Consider which habits, pressures, or expectations you’re ready to release.

  3. What support will you need from others, and how will you ask for it? I’m sorry, you can’t do this alone.

Best Practices for a Fall Reset:

  1. Identify your top 3 priorities for the month, week, and day – I swear this habit has changed my life. I can’t do it all, but I can focus on three things.

  2. Find an outlet for your stress and schedule at least 20 minutes for it (a physical, emotional, or creative outlet) – This comes from the book Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle. We can’t always control our stressors, but we can control how we release the stress from our bodies.

  3. Aim for a 75-80% capacity rate – Life is unpredictable, and tasks often take longer than expected. By leaving some buffer time, you’ll be less likely to feel rushed or overextended.
